Our purpose is to bring international artists together using collaborative projects as a pipeline for the flow of creative energy, the development of friendships, and the celebration of the freedom of expression.
We paired 21 Esbjerg artists with 21 Houston artists. Each artist started a work on paper. These works were sent across the Atlantic to be finished by their artistic partner. The work then made a return trip to its creative origin. Each artist subsequently created a new work in response to the experience of the collaboration in a medium of their choice.
There will be four exhibitions, two in Esbjerg and two in Houston. The exhibits will each consist of 42 collaborative paper pieces and 21 individual artist responses.
About the Name "Rørpost"
Rørpost is a pneumatic tube in Danish. In the past pneumatic tubes were used in department stores to make change or exchange paper messages. In this case Rørpost is a metaphor for sending the paper exchange and art ideas across the Atlantic. The verb "Røre" basically means "to touch" when translated from Danish to English.
Rørpost is the first phase of a three phase project:

Rørpost is the first phase of a three phase project:
- Rørpost, the tube, is a fast and free paper exchange. Røre, to touch, is creating art as a result of the collaborative process and the first touch.
- Rørledning, the pipe, has a larger diameter and exchange. Artists will travel to each other’s country to create art and/or exhibit.
- Rørsamling. the joint, is a connection. Artists in other cities will form connections using the Rørpost to Rørledning model.
596 Miles, Marfa, Texas

596 miles is the distance from Houston to Marfa. Far beyond the horizon’s edge the vista morphs as you travel from the Gulf Coastal Plain, across the Edwards Plateau to the High Desert of the Trans-Pecos in the Basin and Range Province.
It takes time to travel such a distance. You become stretched by looking so far instead of near.
But therein lies the opportunity for discovery. There are those who sight-see and those who travel. To travel is more than seeing sights; to travel is to journey. It is a change that goes on, deep and

But therein lies the opportunity for discovery. There are those who sight-see and those who travel. To travel is more than seeing sights; to travel is to journey. It is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.
In much the same way art has the ability to stretch one’s view, to lead from one point of understanding to another and expand one’s horizon. And in much the same way it takes time, effort and patience to reach one’s destination, to reach one’s potential.
The International Woman’s Foundation in Marfa and The Art Chatter Group of Houston are two organizations separated by a great distance but sharing the common goals to provide a nurturing environment, support the exchange of ideas and dedicated to the artistic development and fulfillment of one’s promise and potential.
It is with great joy and excitement we share our work and efforts with the International Woman’s Foundation in Marfa; to participate together on this journey.
